Following the devastating earthquakes in February 2023, the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) swiftly mobilized to support healthcare professionals affected by the disaster and temporarily assigned to the region. TTB conducted extensive studies to assess the earthquake's catastrophic effects on the health sector, identify critical issues, propose solutions, and advocate for public action.
Immediately after the initial earthquake struck at 4:17 AM on February 6, 2023 TTB joined forces with other professional organizations, unions, and NGOs to establish the Earthquake Crisis Desk. In provinces where medical chambers were incapacitated due to destruction, coordination centers were set up to reactivate these vital institutions and provide essential support. Volunteers worked tirelessly alongside healthcare professionals, offering temporary medical services to citizens in areas with disrupted health services.
The documentary Rooms Without Walls: Hope Trickling from Solidarity chronicles the inspiring story of medical solidarity organized by the TTB, the dedicated doctors who volunteered in the region, and the resilient medical chambers that united in the aftermath of the Turkey-Syria earthquakes.
