Lines of Ilhan is the story of Turkish folklore expert İlhan Başgöz and his decades long journey from Gemerek, Sivas to Bloomington, Indiana. The film combines interviews filled with memories from early years of the Republic of Türkiye, Atatürk, Aşık Veysel, Nazım Hikmet, Yaşar Kemal and many others whose paths crossed with Ilhan Başgöz. His immense knowledge of Turkish folk literature and culture reflect in the film as we listen to songs, poems and stories of Anatolian heritage. Film’s name is derived from the lines of books surrounding him, the cypress trees of Sivas, the roads he crossed and barleys that mark his birthday. The film tries to capture the mosaic of history and culture around Ilhan Basgoz’s personal life story.
