TIME AFTER TIME
Exhibit: Regenerations

Painting, Photography & Some Poetry

CAROL O'NEILL - ADNAN ONART

time after time

The exhibit "Time after Time" explores a powerful dynamic that unfolds along two vectors: Life and the Work of Art. Featuring the paintings of Carol O'Neill and the photographs of Adnan Onart, with poetry interspersed to form visual regenerations, the show examines renewal through memory.

On the vector of life, it echoes Rumi's thought that even when a generation feels "defeated," life is regenerated anew. The work counters Annie Ernaux’s assertion that "all the images will disappear" by showing how newcomers continuously regenerate these memories through stories and family albums.

On the vector of art, the work begins when the artist steps away; the true art occurs not only on the canvas but in the minds of humans.

Ultimately, the exhibit suggests that memory carries the essence of life through generations, precisely as the work of art is perpetually renewed by the active audience.

Two Matches: A Painter & A Photographer

Two MatchesCarol O'Neill is a distinguished Boston-area abstract painter whose work is recognized for its dynamic use of color, texture, and non-representational form. Her canvases concern themselves with non-linear aesthetics rather than rational, narrative themes, and her expressive visual language is profoundly informed by a love of poetry and literature.

A dedicated member of the SoWa Artist Guild, O'Neill maintains a studio in the vibrant arts district, following her earlier affiliation as a member of the prestigious Copley Society of Art. Her significant professional accolades include winning an award at a Copley Society exhibition, participation in the DeCordova Museum's Corporate Loan Program, and the selection of her work for a special exhibition with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, which saw artwork inspired by Mussorgsky's “Pictures at an Exhibition” hung throughout Symphony Hall.

O'Neill holds a BA in English Literature, with graduate study in painting from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Massachusetts College of Art. Through her nonrepresentational painting, she strives to "get under the skin of appearances," inviting viewers to a closer scrutiny of how meaning flows.

Adnan Adam Onart is a multifaceted artist, poet, and academician whose visual practice centers on using the camera as an "uplifting force against the dark." Emphasizing his role as a Photographer at Large, Onart’s work spans street photography, documentation of cultural events, and abstract views of architecture.

Onart’s philosophy is deeply rooted in his background as an academician in philosophy and logic and his success as a poet. His achievements include being a winner of the Nazım Hikmet poetry contest held in North Carolina, demonstrating the intellectual and expressive rigor that informs his visual art. This unique intersection of disciplines— where light meets literature—reinforces his belief that photography is fundamentally an invitation to light and care.

The artists Carol O'Neill and Adnan Adam Onart are married and are residents of Cambridge Homes.
