Anafartalar Bazaar is a shopping center located in Ulus, the historic city center of Ankara, built in the early 1960’s. It is one of many buildings planned to be demolished within ‘Ulus Historic City Center Renovation Area Project’. It is a unique building home to 22 artworks that were made by venerable Turkish artists. It is also Turkey’s first shopping center with escalator with the masterful usage of its time’s technological possibilities. In addition, the artisans in Anafartalar have been running the same shops for over 50 years. Therefore, it has a privileged place in cultural, architectural, artistic and social terms and an important part of collective memory of the city. The documentary sheds light on the history of Anafartalar as well as the recent urban history of Ankara.
